What Does Private Pay Mean?

Private pay is a term used to describe when someone pays for services out of their own resources. It is sometimes called “out-of-pocket.” Generally speaking, personal care services are private pay; they are not covered by Medicare (unless a homebound person is receiving skilled care prescribed by a physician), Medicaid or other health insurance. Inspired Care Solutions is a private pay (concierge care) agency. 

Ways to Fund Private Pay Services

There are a variety of ways to pay for private pay services. Often people will use a combination of sources to pay for home care:

• Personal income – wages, salaries, pensions, Social Security, annuities, and investment income (i.e., dividends and capital gains)
• Savings –  Savings and investment accounts
• Long-Term Care Insurance – Insurance that helps pay for long-term services not covered by health insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid. We offer clients assistance in filing their long-term care insurance claims.
• Reverse Mortgage – This unique type of home equity loan allows homeowners over the age of 62 to tap their home equity for cash, which is usually paid to the homeowner monthly.
• Support from family or friends – Financial assistance from family or friends can help cover some costs.
